You remind me

Not to bite my nails

And I wince

with both embarrassment and temptation.

“I can stop pointing it out if it upsets you?”

No

I want to quit this habit

I

Just have this reaction

Instantly

Against my better judgment

To get defensive

To get angry

But I want

To change

I don’t like

Getting angry at you

I just need

The practice

You remind me

Not to crumple

Under my own weight

daily

You remind me

Not to lie

When the truth makes me

Into something

That I am

And am against

Simultaneously

You remind me…

Of a soft sunburn

Not the kind that peels

But the kind that freckles

Or of the sound

Of the rain stopping

Im sorry

If i've ever been harsh

Or cruel

I just sometimes

Need to be reminded

Of who I am

By who I love

And chose

To contribute.
