Good Morning, Baby

Good morning,

baby

I hope you slept well–

I hope you’re still sleeping

Rolled up in your sheets

Hours from where I sit, already dressed for the day, on mine.

When you wake up

Confused and panicked

Retracing the horrors of your nightmares

I hope you see this text

And that it breaks the lingering curse

Of your imagination.

If I could

I would spend my unconscious hours

Defending your rest

I would walk into your dreams like a cowboy

Ready to save the town

With a quick hand.

If I could

I would direct the film

And give all the monsters

Funny faces

Just so

You’d wake up laughing.

So when you read this,

baby

I hope you feel

The warmth of the sun on your face

And think of it

As my kiss.
